Work load
The extent of a degree is expressed in credits. One
credit is awarded for approximately 40 hours of work:
lectures, practical theatre work, teaching practice,
seminars and other forms of instruction, and independent
study. The Bachelor's degree in all programmes consists
of 120 credits, i.e. three years of full-time study. The
Master's degree consists of 160-180 credits, i.e. four or
five years of full-time study, depending on the
programme. A predoctoral postgraduate degree (Licentiate)
requires a further 80 credits, a doctorate 160 credits.
The degree programmes are divided into basic, practical
and advanced artistic studies. The basic studies cover
professional knowledge, the history of theatre and dance,
languages and computer studies. The practical studies
provide a basic competence in the student's chosen field
through theoretical and practical work and performances.
In the advanced artistic studies students specialise and
broaden their personal artistic and professional outlook
by means of demanding theoretical and practical
assignments.
Degrees
The three-year programmes lead to the lower, Bachelor's
degree in theatre and dance, the four or five-year
programmes to the higher, Master's degree. Theatre
undergraduates are selected for the Master's programme
direct, dance undergraduates first for the Bachelor's.
Having obtained a Bachelor's degree, students can then
apply for the dance, choreography or dance pedagogy
programme leading to the Master of Arts in Dance degree.
Licentiates and doctorates can be taken in theatre and
dance.
