1908 Swedish Theatre School founded

1943 Finnish Theatre School founded
1956 Central Library of Theatre founded
1962-71 University department founded at the Finnish Theatre School
1979 The Finnish and the Swedish schools are combined into the national, bilingual university-level Teatre Academy.
The Central Library of Theatre is made part of the Theatre Academy, and a training centre is also established in con- junction with the Academy.
1983 The Department of Dance is founded
1986 The Department of Sound and Lighting Design is founded
1987 Centre for Theatre Technology (TEATEK) begins in conjunction with the Department of Sound and Lighting Design
1988 Postgraduate education begins. Department of Sound and Lighting Design moves to Tampere
1993 Teacher training in theatre expression begins as profes- sional continuing education centre
1994 The Departments of Directing and Dramaturgy are combined
1995 The degree programme becomes a two-level programme, offering both Bachelor´s and Master´s degrees. The Helsinki Act festival is held for the first time.
1996 The Department of Dance- and Theatre Pedagogy is founded. A degree programme in Music Theatre commenc- es as part of the Department of Acting.
1997 The teacher training programme leading to a Master´s degree commences in The Department of Dance and Thea- tre Pedagogy.
1998/99 A Nordic Master´s degree programme in theatre commences
1999 The Theatre Academy celebrates its twentieth anniversary.
